I dont understand. Is the point to say that we should stop focusing on a major health issue in the US? Like there are people who are genetically predisposed to have an unhealthily large weight and science right now is working on solutions to help those people. This isn’t politicians banning large sodas and fat shaming, this is money going into real science that can help real people suffering from an uncontrollable high weight. It is like high cholesterol or high sodium. It’s not peoples fault that they have it and it would be awful if people went around blaming people for that, but why should we immediately stop focusing on it and calling it the *~obesity epidemic~*? In fact, putting it in quotations like that is really insulting to people who have obesity and can do almost nothing to stop it, because no amount of exercise or diet will stop their unique metabolism or weak neurological pathways that signal when enough food is taken in.
The obesity epidemic is real, and it is something we as a society should not write off as “fat people being fat”.
